Howdy All,
It's finally broken, the heat wave that is. Anyone living and travelling throughout the central, south and southwest states of the US noticed a major change in the weather last night.
Over the last 4 months Oklahoma has seen some of the driest weather since the early 1900's. Almost all of Oklahoma is covered in some degree of drought.
From the last five days we have been experiencing a minimum of 100°F up to 112°F with an average of 60°F dew point (which is extremely hot)! Monday night we camped in a smalltown on the Oklahoma – Arkansas border called Poteau, in the middle of the night we were woken to thunder and lightning and light rain which has brought 20°F cooler weather.
"Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain."
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain."
I imagine most of the Oklahoma State will be singing and celebrating today as the last 45 days of over 100°F and the current drought has been taking its toll.
Well here's to more rain and a break in the drought.
Cheers Rob
